The second IMIG Conference was held as a satellite to the American Thoracic Society Meeting in San Francisco, May 1993. The meeting featured presentations by at least 24 speakers from 10 different countries. The meeting clearly showed that substantial amounts of research were underway around the globe. The IMIG was embraced as a forum to encourage and to feature this international research effort. Of the many topics covered were some that have proved to be quite important, including: immunobiology, low dose of asbestos, hopes for early diagnosis and treatmetn. The view was expressed that advances in understanding mesothelioma could lead to applications to other solid tumors.
